If you were to describe your book in only one word, what would it be?
Dirty.
What would you say inspired you to write it?
I was driving home after a long day at work and I wasn’t in the best mood. The book was supposed to be a lot darker than what it turned out to be (hence the title of “kept”), however I didn’t have it in me to finish it like that the next day. 😛
What was your source of inspiration for Casey?
I’m not really sure actually, she just kind of created herself!
Have you ever lusted after a neighbor like Casey does with Mr. Davis?
I grew up on a farm, I didn’t really have neighbours like this 😛
What was your first Erotica reading experience?
50 Shades, of course!
Have you ever been hit by the infamous “writer’s block”? What did you do to escape it?
Yeah, I’m sure we all get hit with that! I usually just call it a day and go do something else. I’m the type who only writes when the inspiration is strong, I don’t want to end up hating writing!
What is your all time favorite book?
I loved the Harry Potter series growing up! But I might be disillusioned by the awesomeness of a childhood memory.
What made you pick that one above all others?
The late nights constantly flipping pages wondering what was going to happen next.
What’s the longest time you’ve spent working on a project?
On a writing project, two weeks of constant all day writing.
Would you say becoming an author has changed you? In what way?
My writing skills are improving slowly again! Years of the internet and no more schooling slowly chips away at you 😛
Was there ever a time, during your work for the book, when you felt like giving up? What made you change your mind?
Nope! I enjoyed writing this one all the way though 🙂
What does your day-to-day life consist of? What else do you do, aside from writing?
Lately I’ve been putting a lot of time and effort into my website. That’s been my main focus for the last few months. I’m the type who has to finish one project at a time (which sucks too because I have random days where I really want to write!)
How do you deal with bad reviews or acid criticism? What would you advise other authors to that effect?
It doesn’t really bother me. Most negative reviews don’t seem to offer anything constructive, they just wanted to tell me how bad my book was! It’s all opinion, you’ll never find thousands of people with the same opinion.
Do you have any intention of continuing Casey’s adventures?
I do! Eventually. 😛 There are definitely a few other projects I’ll have to write first though.
What do you have stored for us in the future? What are you working on/planning on next, aside this title/series?
I still have a lot of work left on my website that I’d like to complete, however I’m probably going to try getting some more short stories out randomly. “Rebel” was pretty successful as a standalone book, I’ll probably try and serialize that.
What made you decide to become an Author?
Two long distance relationships makes a person pretty good at word sex!
What would you say was the toughest part?
Figuring out the steps required to publishing. You should see my first cover attempt, they’ve come a long way 🙂
Did you hire professionals for editing, cover design, formatting?
Editing for sure, that’s something you can’t teach yourself. No matter how many times you read your own words there’s always something to miss. The other two things I slowly taught myself through trial and error.
How did you decide who to hire, if you worked with pros?
I’m part of a little author group and one of the women there offered to edit a book of mine. I took her up on it and she kicked ass so I stuck with her.
How long did the production part take, from the moment you began working on the manuscript to self-pub to when you hit ‘Publish’?
For short stories it’s usually about four days, for an entire series it can take months (depending on life/work/etc).
Where is your work being distributed, Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, AllRomanceEbooks/Omnilit, some other distributor? How did you decide which one(s) to go with?
Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, iTunes, ARe, Kobo, Google Play, and a few libraries that Smashwords distributes to. I decided on these purely on the recommendations of others.
If you could turn back in time and do things differently, would you? What would you change?
Oh yes, definitely! I spent a lot of time re-working things like formatting, covers, etc. I’d simply go back and do everything right the first time.
