His touch unleashes her heritage. Hiding is no longer an option.

After decades of war, the Qui Empress ushers in a new era when she takes a human tribute as her price for a peace treaty with Earth. She orders the surrender of all human prisoners of war.

Butchered and broken, Raiss Tyrone has escaped his K’lahn captors and is running for his life. The arrival of a Qui warship in orbit sparks an intense man hunt. A K’lahn garrison is out in force, chasing him down. His only hope is a strange, insecure half-breed woman, part human, part K’lahn.

Crendea has never come to terms with her shape shifting affliction, a genetic aberration from her K’lahn father. She lives with the shame, terrified of exploring the full extent of her heritage. Now a single look from Raiss Tyrone, lust in his eye, and her sparkling lizard scaling bursts forth. His delicious scent and warm touch ripples a terrifying change across her body, and neither of them are prepared for the genetic frenzy they are about to unleash.

This sexy romance tale is the third story in a collection inspired by Under By Treaty, a science fiction romance in Kayla Stonor’s Surrender collection. Each tale in the Qui Treaty Collection is a standalone short story or novella set in the Qui galactic empire, with annihilation of mankind held at bay only through the Treaty consummated between the Qui Empress and the human consort abducted under its terms.

When I’m not serving the Captain, I fulfill his wishes. He ordered me to breed or die, so I breed, constantly. Or I try to.

Jason, my fellow captive and lover, is my anchor to sanity. Unfortunately Jason doesn’t know my secrets. He considers clones an abomination.

I fear the day my lover helps us escape as he’s promised. I fear he’ll reject me if he learns of my deceit. I pray to a universe that has never shown me favor, I pray our love can survive our escape.

I am not a worker drone. I am something else. I am the untapped potential of the human genome. I am the next step in human evolution.

Patricia A. Knight – Hers to Claim (Review & Giveaway)

Hers to Claim by Patricia A. Knight

Series: Verdantia #4
Source: Personal Library
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A prince from the Nyth Uchel mountains … a healer from the Oshtech desert …

Scornfully rejected by her desert lover and uncertain of her place in the world, Adonia traveled a perilous road to the fabled mountain-city of Nyth Uchel. She came to heal the sick and dying, but in the arms of highborn prince, Hel, Adonia found the answer to saving herself.

Descended from nobility, once great kings of Verdantia, Hel willingly bore the burden of his dying city and its people on his shoulders. Watching helplessly as a malingering evil attacked the very soil under his feet, he crushed his pride to summon help. He’d been staggered to discover the answer to saving his city and perhaps all Verdantia might lie behind a heavy fall of chocolate hair and shy brown eyes.

As their entire planet faces an encroaching black death, two seemingly disparate individuals forge a partnership of love and sacrifice that will alter their future forever. All of Verdantia will be tested.

Absolutely splendid.
A fantastic addition to the Verdantia Series!

(Mild Spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series)

The fourth book brought back all of the characters we’ve come to love from this series – Ram & Steffiana play a huge role, and Hel’s bickering with Ram was a particularly delightful aspect of the book:

“Bring it on, dickless wonder […] Your wife inspires more fear in me. You aren’t half the man she is.”

In addition, all three members of the Royal Tetriarch are featured heavily. Even Eric and Sophi pop up for a few scenes – so basically, everyone but Tok had a few moments to catch the reader up on life after their book.

Speaking of cameos and awesomeness – Patricia A. Knight included a feature I’d not seen before (but appreciated the wisdom of) a live-linked Easter egg embedded in the dialogue. Doral whispers something in Ari’s ear… The reader clicks the link (and is asked to sign up for Patricia A. Knight’s newsletter) and the page reveals the secret whispered.

Was it an epic secret? Nah.
Was it amusing? Sure.
Was it a genius marketing ploy? Absolutely.

I did a full breakdown of the intricacies of this high-fantasy Sci-Fi world in My review for Hers to Command. Rather than rehashing all of that, I’ll simply encourage you to catch up with that post.

However, I want to remind you of one important fact: The Planet Verdantia is sentient; She has feelings, and interacts with her population. That interaction occurs when certain Verdantians have sex… Crazy, sweaty, kinky, burn-up-the sheets sex…

All this awesome sex helps the planet flourish – it keeps the lights on, makes the crops grow, and it powers the shields which protect the Verdantia from outside forces…

Only Verdantians with a specific set of genetic markers are capable of performing the sexual rites, and they were systematically slaughtered during the war with the Haarb. Only a handful of Magistras survived the decimation of Verdantia… It was assumed that all of the female survivors (who are of age) had already been paired up…

Turns out, we were wrong.

ADONIA

What will I be at the end of this journey? Someone different I suspect.

We met Adonia in Hers to Choose. She is a warrior and a healer who traveled with Sophi’s deadly First Arrows. She was raised with a loathing of the high-bred Verdantians who performed rites. Toward the end of her time in the desert with Eric and Sophi, she discovered she had much to learn about Verdantian Magicks.

She began to travel with Sophi and Eric as they made their way across the planet. She suffered nearly irreparable heartache when her betrothed, Klaran, cast her off – telling her that she wasn’t feminine enough and that he used her in order join the service of Ducca DeStoria.

She obviously needed to get away from Klaran, so she fled to Sylvan Mintoth and began advanced study in the healing Rites. She hoped to become a more proficient healer despite the fact that her common Oshtesh genetics would never allow her to actually attempt the sexual rites. She was keeping to herself and watching over Queen Fleur (who is pregnant with her fourth child) when a scraggly, smelly, fur-covered nobleman storms into the throne-room.

HEL

“You are a light for my dark soul – a gift from our Great Mother…”

Though the Haarb have been eradicated, Verdantia is still under attack. A mysterious force threatens the planet on the metaphysical plane – a darkness has descended across the remote regions of the planet. We’re talking poisoned soil, plagues, mutants, and zombies… The kingdom of Nyth Uchel has taken the blunt force of this attack, and Prince DeHelios has come to Sylvan Mintoth to beg for help.

He has lost his wife,
his young children,
his friends,
and has little hope left.

He needs the Tetriarch to provide him with a healer and brite-weed to combat the illness which has claimed the lives of so many. He needs a magistra to return to Nyth Uchel with him and perform the Great Rite if there is any hope of restoring light to the darkness which has enveloped his kingdom…

The Tetriarch agree to part with copious amounts of healing herbs and with their beloved medica Adonia, but there are no magistras left on Verdantia…

Hel leaves Sylvan Mintoth with a heavy heart – with no magistra his hopes of saving his city are nearly nonexistent. He must put all his faith in a healer who has little faith in herself… The road to Nyth Uchel is long and treacherous, the Tetriarch insist that Ram and Steffiana accompany Hel and Adonia on their journey…

Along the way they will face mutants, evil soul-sucking ghouls, and a steadily encroaching winter. They attempt to decipher the riddles of rambling mystics and soon learn that Adonia is not precisely what she seems…

Verdantia works in mysterious ways, and the group has a great deal to prepare for if they hope to succeed in the coming war against an intangible enemy…

There was a lot going on in this installment:
We learn more about the history of Verdantia, and of the first Tetriarc.
a few riddles,
lots of action,
symbiotic cephalopods,
a particularly kinky Prince,
some hilarious alpha-male bickering,
and an epic battle for Verdantia herself!

Another exciting feature:
Patricia A. Knight has included a glossary of terms with pronunciation to assist the reader with acclimating to this richly detailed Sci-Fi world.

The only drawback:
I’ve grown quite fond of the bad-ass female main characters in this series, but Adonia had a nasty habit of putting herself down and generally believing that she was unworthy despite all evidence to the contrary… That being said, her attainment of self-worth was a good source for character progression…

Overall, it was another fabulous installment of the Verdantia Series, and I’ll be the first in line for book five when Patricia A. Knight blesses us with one!

Patricia A. Knight – Hers to Cherish

Hers to Cherish by Patricia A. Knight

Series: Verdantia #3
Source: Personal Library
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Who would’ve thought a rogue nobleman and a secret agent tied in shibari knots would be so instrumental in saving a world from sexual slavery.

For disgraced nobleman and accused murderer, Ramsey DeKieran, a pardon is an unobtainable fantasy. When the High Lord of Verdantia offers the prize, Ram knows there’ll be a catch. He accepts the impossible mission – the off-world rescue of a Verdantian noblewoman, one of the last of her kind. The one bright spot: Elite mercenary, Steffania Rickard, is ordered undercover to help DeKieran – posing as his sexual submissive.

For Steffania, assisting the dominating Ramsey on this insane mission will be challenge enough. The damn rogue trips all her triggers – good and bad. But infinitely worse, on the planet, Vxloncia, she must submit as Ram’s sex slave, and there’s no faking it. Bent at his knee, serving his every command, Steffania doubts her carefully hidden desires will remain concealed.

Their mission takes on new urgency when they unmask a heinous program of enslavement, long cloaked in secrecy. Together they must find a way to overcome their initial animosity and recover a woman vital to the future of their race.

In the maelstrom of sex, savagery, domination and submission, they will need all their wits and strength to survive – but the battle for their hearts is lost – to one another.

Absolutely Stunning: Sexy Sci-Fi with suspense and submission…

(Mild Spoilers if you haven’t read Hers to Command & Hers to Choose)

The man fed every carnal fantasy she possessed. He sat her lustful appetites before an array of the finest delicacies, ordered them to feast, then commanded, “Don’t swallow.”

This book was a major departure from the previous books in the series, and the payoff was outstanding!

We traveled far from the sentient planet Verdantia in this installment, and were treated with all of the high tech Science-Fiction possibilities Patricia A. Knight can imagine…

Two characters we’ve met before in this series must pair up to rescue Lady Alessa DeAlbero from the clutches of the infamous slaver Vecon Narr…

RAMSEY DeKIERAN

“If I am successful, you have Lady DeAlbero, if unsuccessful, my dead body, and all it costs you is a piece of paper.”

Ramsey is a disgraced Verdantian, stripped of his title and honor, forced to work as a mercenary in the grittiest parts of his home world. In Hers to Choose he made the honorable decision to free Sophi and fight beside Eric against the Haarb.

His actions redeemed him in the eyes of Sophi, and brought his unparalleled skills to the attention of the Tetriarch. He is apprehended by the Blue Daggers and taken to Sylvan Mintoth for an audience with Ari & Doral.

Ram is presented with an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for a Royal Pardon, he will go undercover on Vxloncia, where all women are subservient. The entire planet engages in D/s as a social mechanism for the repression of females.

Ramsey has never been off world before, he’s accustomed to the simple existence of Verdantia, and will need a Blue Dagger to accompany him as back up and to offer mastery of the technological advances of the foreign planet. Out of spite, he chooses the no-nonsense Captain of the Blue Daggers Steffania Rickard to accompany him on his mission…

STEFFANIA RICKARD

She was no helpless female – never had been. She was death clothed in a body of female allure and fiercely proud of it.
But in sex, she needed surrender. She craved a man strong enough to take the control out of her hands.

The idea of submitting to the sexual thrall of Ramsey DeKieran is no hardship to Steffiana… Pretending to be a docile non-entity who cowers at her Masters feet is deplorable… The thought that she could quite possibly loose her heart to DeKieran is terrifying… The knowledge that her failure to be the perfect submissive could compromise their entire mission, keeps everything in perspective…

They must work together in perfect balance to accomplish their mission.

Vxloncia is notorious for it’s brutality and decadence – Ramsey will be competing in a Gladiator competition. If he wins, he will be invited to the compound of the man thought to hold Lady DeAlbero as a slave. Loss of the game also means loss of his life, but Ram and Steffania quickly discover that danger is just as grate outside the arena.

There are several darker elements at work in this book: Sexual Slavery & Mind Control are at top of the list of egregious acts committed by Vecon Narr, and we’re not spared any of the violent graphic details… So consider that carefully before you decide to read this book. If you can handle a little violence with your graphic sex, you’ll be richly rewarded.

This book was fucking awesome!
We had a brand new planet with a new social structure and physical environment, several new characters (which I hope to meet again), and I loved all of the imaginative technological advancements, especially a particularly kinky bit of nanotechnology…

Patricia A. Knight – Hers to Choose

Hers to Choose by Patricia A. Knight

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To preserve their civilization, a disillusioned warrior and a violated innocent need to put aside the trauma of their past to confront a present evil.

Mentally scarred from her years as prisoner to the off-world invaders, Lady Sophillia Glorianna DeLorion, doubts she can be a fit sexual partner for any man…

…even one whose passionate green eyes make her remember what it is to desire.

Commander of the Queen’s Royal Guard, Eric DeStroia had grown up watching the corrosive, soul-killing effects of arranged, aristocratic marriage and vowed to remain alone. But under his hardened military exterior, Eric has a kind heart. When the second Tetriarch suggests he marry a noble woman rescued from the enemy, Eric reconsiders, consoling himself with visions of sheltering a wounded dove under his mighty arm. Instead, he discovers a fierce falcon that refuses to stoop to his lure.

In the aftermath of their resounding defeat, a survivor from the enemy camp plotted a return to Verdantia to exact retribution. His first objective is the recapture of Lady Sophillia DeLorion. She had been unreachable until she went to the Oshtesh. Now, only Eric DeStroia stands in his way.

Star_full48Star_full48Star_full48Star_full48

A gorgeous and steamy Sci-Fi Sequel!

(Mild Spoilers if you haven’t read Hers to Command)

This was an amazing followup to the first book in the series. It carried all of the strengths of its predecessor while focusing on a new couple with all new obstacles…

I did a full breakdown of the intricacies of this high-fantasy Sci-Fi world in My review for the previous book in the series.

Only a handful of these Magistras survived the decimation of Verdantia…

SOPHI

“You make me bold, Eric.”

We met Sophi at the end of Hers to Command. She is Doral’s beloved sister, and was held captive by the Haarb during the war. Ari rescued Sophi and her mother from the clutches of the Haarb and returned them to Doral, who thought they were dead.

Sophi was a cowering mess in the wake of her captivity. She was incapable of enduring the social atmosphere of the palace, and was taken to a village in the wastelands where she could mentally recover from her ordeal.

The female warriors who inhabit the wastelands handed her a bow and taught her to defend herself. Three years later, she’s Flight Leader of a squadron of highly trained soldiers, and is capable of battling any enemy. But fate has different plans for Sophi, as one of the few remaining females of the noble class, she’s being recalled to Sylvan Mintoth to claim her birthright.

ERIC

He had underestimated the endless capacity of his heart to feel joy.

Eric is the childhood friend of Queen Fleur and commander of her Royal Guard. He was hand selected by Doral to bring Sohi out of the wastelands and as candidate to become her partner in the rites.

Eric seems to be every bit as enthusiastic about the situation as Sophi, but he is honor bound to protect and escort her home… Sophi is nothing like the shell of a girl who fled Sylvan Mintoth three years earlier, she’s a headstrong warrior and she has no patience for Eric.

The road from the wastelands to the palace is a long and treacherous one, they’ll have to work together, trust, and fight side by side in order to survive…

Several differences between this book and the first:
– There was a focus on building trust and respect between the main characters.
– We had a MF romance rather than an MMF, and their relationship was encouraged but not forced like in Hers to Command
– Eric & Sophi took their time before falling into bed, and when they did hit the sheets the chemistry was perfection.

In addition:
There was more action,
Sophi proves she’s a badass,
There were several female warriors of worth,
and this book packed more emotion than the first in my opinion…

The Tetriarch played a large part in this book as well, so don’t worry about missing our favorite Royal Threesome… Note to self: ‘Royal Threesome’ is an awesome band name

Overall it was a wonderful experience, and I’m looking forward to reading more of the Verdantia series… I hear the next book has D/s elements, so I’m definitely on board!
