My rating: 4 of 5 stars

He wanted a boyfriend. What he got was a hero.

When an accident burns down Jesse’s apartment, he’s left broke and homeless, with a giant dog and a college schedule he can’t afford to maintain. And no family who’s willing to take him in.

Lucky for him, a sexy fireman offers him a place to stay. The drawback? The fireman’s big Latino family lives next door, and they don’t know their son is gay.

Tomas’s parents made their way in America with hard work and by accepting help when it was offered, so he won’t let Jesse drop out of school just so he can afford a place to live. Besides, Jesse’s the perfect roommate—funny, sweet and breathtakingly cute. He climbs into Tomas’s bed and tugs at his heart. Until Jesse starts pushing for more.

Their passion enflames their bodies but threatens to crush Tomas’s family. Tomas is willing to fight for Jesse, but after losing everything, Jesse isn’t sure he can bear to risk his one remaining possession—his heart.

It was a fun and incredibly sexy collection of short stories! You can read my full review here.

An Interview with Kitty Mulholland…

If you were to describe your book in only one word, what would it be?
Beginning.

What would you say inspired you to write it?
Erotica was the first thing I started writing. It’s where my soul wants to be. I write from my own experiences, closing my eyes and remembering people, places and situations and adding a little extra spice to make them into a good horny story which is, I hope, arousing to the reader.

How much of yourself do you see in the character Leah?
Leah is an extension of me really. Some of the things she gets up to I wouldn’t be brave enough to explore, but some things are based on real experiences of mine. There are embellishments though, of course! (Personally, I have never had sex in a sauna. I think I’d pass out!)

What was your first Erotica reading experience?
It was a wonderful book called “The Butcher, The Baker, The Candlestick Maker” by Suzanne Portnoy. Funnily enough, I read it as my own husband and I were separating, so I could relate to a great deal of her character’s own feelings about fading attraction in a marriage and how she decides to pick herself up and get back into the dating game.

Your all time favorite book?
Oh, such a difficult question. It changes every day, I’m sure! I’m going to go with “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens.

What made you pick that one above all others?
It’s a story of love despite external forces working against you. It’s about making the greatest sacrifice for someone you truly love. It’s about showing courage during a crisis. It moves me every time.

What’s the longest time you’ve spent working on a project?
The first book is a culmination of over a year’s work, fine-tuning my writing style to get to a point where I felt confident enough to have my work exposed to the world at large.

Would you say becoming an author has changed you? In what way?
Oh, very much so. I didn’t realize how much potential I had inside me, screaming to get out. I just wasn’t listening to what was inside of me.. Now, I feel as though I have given a voice to a wild, untamed part of myself.

Was there ever a time, during your work for the book, when you felt like giving up?
Oh, yes. I expect that’s true for every author. A friend of mine told me that she knows when she’s ready to publish something because that’s when she also feel totally fed up with the damn thing.

What made you change your mind?
All my life, I’ve never been good at finishing things. I’m good at starting projects of all sorts, but not very good at bringing things to a conclusion. I wanted my writing to be different. I wanted to prove to myself I could finish something.

What does your day-to-day life consist of? What else do you do, aside writing?
In my day job, I’m a project engineer for an automotive manufacturer. Completely different from writing! It’s often long hours, which is frustrating and doesn’t allow me write as much as I would like, but it does keep my feet on the ground and, obviously, pays the bills.

How do you deal with bad reviews or acid criticism? What would you advise other authors to that effect?
I’ve been very lucky so far, in that I have not received any bad reviews. However, I know that time will come at some point and I shall have to address it. I would hope to be mature about it. After all, we are all different creatures. Some people may be offended by some of the themes which I address in my stories. It’s not going to be to everyone’s taste. But, you know what, that’s fine. Also, I’d like to say that I’m always open to constructive criticism. I’m a relative newbie to the world of writing and I still have a great deal to learn.

Without giving us spoilers, of course, what can we expect from the next books in the Fierce & Fabulous series?
Volume Two is well under way. There’s more horniness from Leah as she starts taking more risks and becoming more daring. Her journey is certainly taking a more exciting route! I seem to have lots of material in my head still, so there will definitely be a volume three and maybe even a fourth book in the series. Basically, I shall keep writing them as long as people are enjoying them.

What do you have stored for us in the future? What are you working on/planning on next, aside this title/series?
I’m working on an erotic paranormal romance novel, the first draft of which is almost finished. It’s a story that’s been in my head for some years but never seen the light of day until recently.

What made you decide to become an Indie Author?
I think the explosion of social media and e-reading devices has been a godsend to writers, especially in the erotica genre. My perception of the traditional publishing houses is that they are still somewhat reluctant to take on erotica, so I felt it was the quickest way to get my work out there to the waiting public. I’m not a patient person by nature, I’m afraid!

What would you say was the toughest part?
Once I’d said to my formatting guy, “There you go, it’s ready!” my stomach flipped. I felt so nervous. I was baring myself to the soul. I was terrified no one would like the book. I felt physically sick with nerves for a while until the sales started rolling in, then it was a huge relief. I suspect this will not change for the second book. Nor the third, fourth or fifth either!

Did you hire professionals for editing, cover design, formatting?
Yes, I did. Partly because I wanted to get the book out there but didn’t have the skills to do the formatting myself. I also have a friend who writes in the erotica genre and we do an author swap now and then to edit each other’s work. She is a saint!

How did you decide who to hire, if you worked with pros?
I’m lucky enough to be part of a lovely network of writers here in the UK. We meet up annually at the Swanwick Writers Summer School to swap tips, follow short courses and generally gossip about who’s doing what. It was at one of these events that I met a friend who recommended the company I used. We have built up a sounds relationship and I shall be using them to publish all the books in the Fierce & Fabulous series.

How long did the production part take, from the moment you began working on the manuscript to self-pub to when you hit ‘Publish’?
It took much longer than I expected, probably about eight months altogether.

Where is your work being distributed, Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, AllRomanceEbooks/Omnilit, some other distributor? How did you decide which one(s) to go with?
At the moment, it’s only available on Amazon. However, as the series grows, I would envisage the books being available elsewhere. I would recommend you stay tuned to my Twitter and/or Facebook pages for news.

If you could turn back in time and do things differently, would you? What would you change?
I’m a dreadful procrastinator. The number of times I sit down to write, then realize I need to put some laundry in the machine, cook dinner, tidy the house, etc. etc. but never actually get round to putting pen to paper, it’s awful. So, I am slowly learning how to manage my time and keep to my own targets but it’s not easy. I get very easily distracted.

Fun facts:

If you could wish for any one thing, and it would immediately come true, what would you wish for?
True love

If you were stranded on an isolated island, what’s the one book you’d absolutely wish to have with you?
My journal. It’s fascinating to realise how much you change as a person over a period of time. It also has empty pages which I could fill myself while sitting on that deserted island.

Name your favorite fruit.
Strawberries

Coffee or tea?
Don’t like either. Hot chocolate though, I could drink that all day…

Favorite season?
Summer. People wear less clothes. Mmmm…

How about favorite time of the day?
Early morning. I’m a bit of lark.I get up around 5.30am every day. I love to hear the birds singing before the world rises.

Were you a boyscout/girlscout?
Yes.

Favorite food for breakfast?
Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. It’s my weekend treat.

Latest book you’ve bought and read?
I’m currently reading “Cat’s Eye” by Margaret Atwood. I’m a big fan of hers. Next on the list is “Jesus Christ and the Broken Microwave” by Tim Dewhurst. I bought it purely because the title sounds hilarious and after the thought-provoking Atwood, I think I shall be glad of some light relief.

Do you collect things, like stamps, or key chains, or shoes?
Bookmarks. Red leather ones, to be precise. I’ve collected them from tourist attractions since I was a little girl. I have about fifty so far.

Favorite color, you know you want to tell us!
Purple

Drama or comedy?
Comedy. We don’t laugh nearly enough in Western culture these days.

Cats or dogs?
Cats, always. You have to earn affection from a cat. They don’t give it freely; you must be assessed. Only when you’re deemed worthy, do you have your affection returned. This sets us a great example. I often think if we were a bit more discerning with the way we trust our fellow humans, we’d live happier lives.

Dinner by candlelight or a night out clubbing?
Depends on the person. Dinner is more intimate, perhaps on a date with someone I love. Clubbing has its place too though, with friends though usually.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Chocolate ice cream.

Favorite Swear Word?
“Fuck.” It’s so versatile. It comes up in my day job with an alarming regularity, and also in some of my writing, but with very different applications.

So much sexy fun in this little collection!

It’s always an exciting experience kissing someone new. You never really know until that moment whether there’s going to be any chemistry between you.

This is an absolutely perfect steamy summer read for your naughty pleasure. Three erotic short stories, all centering around the same female lead.

It was light-hearted and sinfully sexy. There might be one or two themes which might be objectionable to to some readers – one story deals with swingers, another mentions some infidelity…

But overall it was a fun read!

DOUBLE DUTCH

“Would you rather be alone, or would you mind if we joined you?”

Leah and her boyfriend Dylan are looking for more than the average tourist interests and R&R on their vacation… The swingers have their eye on a gorgeous Dutch Couple staying at the same resort. When a little sex on the beach turns into a show for the objects of their lust, the result is a MFFM sexual situation which will leave you panting…

INBETWEEN

That is the ultimate power of the inbetweener. You can have no expectations of them because they will consistently fail to achieve them. Instead, you must be pleasently surprised at the occasional attention and take it for what it is; a single night of passion and romance and nothing more.

The inbetweener is the kind of guy which Leah insists that all women have on speed dial – he’s the guy you call for hot and sweaty rebound sex after a bad break up. No feelings, no relationship, just hours and hours of sex to shock yourself out of break-up mode… Leah tells us all about her inbetweener in this spicy short story…

TURNING UP THE HEAT

“Oh you dirty girl.” He bared his teeth, like a wolf about to devour his prey. “Look at what you’ve done to me!”

Yeah, I think I have to call this one my favorite. Leah is doing laps in the pool at her local gym when she discovers she’s caught the eye of a much younger man. She retreats to the peace and quiet of the sauna to calm her thoughts, but that incredibly hot guy joins her… Now they’re all alone in the sauna, and it just keeps getting hotter…

Each story was different, and they call came together to present a variety of erotic delights.
I’m looking forward to reading Fierce & Fabulous Volume Two when it comes out!

“Sublime service, made to order.” The Flesh Cartel: an international, multi-billion-dollar black market that trades in lost souls. Or more specifically, their bodies.

Highly organized and frighteningly efficient, the Flesh Cartel could teach even the KGB a thing or two about breaking a human mind. Fortunately for their ultra-rich clients, they’re just as skilled at putting people back together again-as perfect pets, well-trained and eager to please.

No matter what your secret tastes or dark desires, the Flesh Cartel-for the right price, of course-will hand-design the plaything of your dreams.

This collection contains:

The Flesh Cartel #1: Capture
The Flesh Cartel #2: Auction

Warnings: explicit violence, forced incest, non-consent

The First Season of the Flesh Cartel is one of the darkest, most twisted and terrifying openings for any series I’ve read. That’s not hyperbole. That’s fact.

This is a collection of the first two episodes of this series:
The Flesh Cartel #1: Capture & The Flesh Cartel #2: Auction

The Flesh Cartel #1 Capture by Rachel Haimowitz

Sublime service, made to order.

Some books require a stern warning for the unsuspecting reader:

kidnapping and abuse…
gang rape…
forced incest…
emotional torture…
Proceed with extreme caution.

As JaHy told me, this series isn’t just dark, it’s pitch black…

If you find the stomach to take on this series, then you’ll be rewarded with a tale full of intrigue which hooks you immediately. You can feel the darkness settle around you even after you’ve put the book down…

Brothers.
Mat is a MMA fighter.
Dougie is a PHD student.
They were struggling to keep their heads above water, and now they’re fighting for their lives. Ripped from their home by a group of strangers and forced to endure a series of unspeakable acts… Forced to watch each other suffer…

But Why?

I do not know what this series holds for Dougie & Mat, but let me be clear:
This is not BDSM Romance,
This is not MM Romance,
This is not Stockholm Syndrome disguised as Romance.

He almost whimpered Don’t hurt me again, but managed to bite it back. Like it’d mattered worth a damn anyway. Hadn’t yet. They actually seemed to like it when he begged.

The Flesh Cartel #2 Auction by Rachel Haimowitz

Brothers Mat & Dougie survived a week in the brutal hands of their captors. Can they possibly survive what comes next? What lengths will they go to in order to survive?

The purpose behind the kidnapping and incarceration of the brothers finally becomes clear – they are to auctioned off as pets to the highest bidder.

Worn down by days of unrelenting fear and abuse, Mat and Dougie are packaged with the same ruthless efficiency as any consumer product: Dougie the pretty boy twink, Mat the rabid pit bull. They are led to the auction block as the showpiece of the house’s collection.

Trapped in adjacent cells awaiting their fate, the brothers are achingly close – close enough to hear the other’s tortured moans – yet unable to see or comfort one another.

While Mat clings to the strength and endurance earned in this MMA training, Dougie is despairing only a few feet away.
Helpless…
Broken…

Will the brothers ever be able to escape this hell?
And will the ever be the same if they do?

Mat would rather be beaten to death than play the role of obedient slave for sale, but Dougie, desperate not to be separated from his brother, strikes a deal with the pitiless Madame who runs the auction house and controls both their fates. It might just be enough to keep them together – slaves, but together – assuming Mat even wants to be after Dougie fulfills his end of his with the devil.

Each time I finish one of the Flesh Cartel episodes I find myself at a precipice…

Do I continue down this dark and twisted path to satisfy my curiosity? Can I possibly handle the increasing brutality which Mat and Dougie have been forced to endure? Because one thing is for sure – there is no light at the end of the tunnel for these brothers.

This is a thrilling, terrifying tale packed into an unassumingly small package…
And I can’t wait to go back for more…

In episode two of The Flesh Cartel, the dark purpose behind Mat and Dougie Carmichael’s abduction is revealed. Though Dougie is protected from the worst of the guards’ brutality, he’s disgusted to find himself halfway to broken—despairing of escape and terrified of pain. Mat holds onto hope despite repeated rapes and beatings, but threats toward his brother teach him well to lay aside his pride and pick his battles carefully.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this first installment of the exciting new psychosexual thriller, The Flesh Cartel, orphaned brothers Mat and Dougie Carmichael are stolen in the night from their own home. Taken to a horrifying processing facility, they are assessed, microchipped, and subjected to unspeakable brutality—all in preparation for sale to the highest bidder.

In a world where every person has a price, the beautiful and subduable PhD student Dougie is highly prized. His brother, a rough-edged MMA fighter, is less desirable—and potentially too dangerous—but he still has his own appeal.

Abused and locked up under round the clock surveillance, with no idea where they are or even why they’ve been taken, escape seems impossible, which leaves staying together their only hope. And after being separated once by the foster system, they’ll do anything to keep it from happening again. Anything at all.

“Fired Up” by Anne Marsh

HANNAH GREEN

Hannah Green is a smoke spotter in Sequoia National Park. She sits atop her secluded perch at Widows Peak, fifty miles from the nearest base camp and keeps an eye out for signs of forest fires. She calls in the danger on her radio to alert the Big Bear Rogues – Hotshot Firefighters in the Park – so they can do what they do best… But that’s not the only use Hanna’s radio is getting… All alone in her tiny cabin, she’s been exchanging steamy radio time each night with a mysterious Hotshot named Cole Henry.

This was fantasy, she reminded herself. Naughty, but not explicitly forbidden, although only because the employee handbook hadn’t been updated since 1960. She knew better than to take on one of the hotshots in real life, because the real-life Big Bear Rogues lived up to their name – big, rough, sensual men who would take no prisoners in bed. She didn’t need or want that kind of intensity on a permanent basis.

COLE HENRY

Cole Henry is a former military man working as a Big Bear Rogue. He’s Cajun, a maverick, rough around the edges, and night after night he has been swapping sexual fantasies with a stranger – the one with the sexy voice, who is stationed at Widows Peak – Hannah Green… One night in the midst of one of their elicit radio interactions, lightening strikes the Widows Peak cabin and knocks Hanna’s radio off line, leaving her alone and stranded.

His fear for Hannah’s safety, didn’t make any fucking sense. He’d never met the woman, no matter how many hours he’d spent talking to her on their private channel. He didn’t even know anything about her – her deepest sexual fantasies aside. And yet he really, really needed to go out and see for himself that she was fine.

So Cole Henry makes the journey to replace Hannah’s radio, and finally put a face to the voice whose fantasies he knew so well… How will the pair react to spending time with their fantasy stranger? The voice who was never supposed to be reality…

“Sizzle” by Lynn LaFleur

MAYSEN HALLIDAY

His finger lifting her chin dragged her gaze to his face. “You look at me like you want to devour me,” he said, low and husky. She wouldn’t lie to him about the way she felt. “I do.”

Maysen Halliday has traveled to Lanville, Texas to take photographs of the hottest Firemen in the state for her magazine Hotshots… And perhaps to sample the Fire Chief…

CLAYTON SPENCER

He spread her labia with his thumbs, gave her one slow stroke of his tongue. “Mmm, delicious.” The tip of his tongue danced over her wet folds. “I could spend hours licking your pussy.”
“I’ll let you. Tomorrow. Now I need you to fuck me.”

Clayton Spencer is the Volunteer Fire Chief. After having his heart broken once, he has no intention of getting involved with the drop dead gorgeous photographer who just arrived in town…

…I guess we’ll see how long they can avoid giving into the attraction which sizzles between them.

“Five-Alarm Masquerade” by Stacey Kennedy

ABBY HILL

Only a fool would walk away from something that electric. She was a bookworm and a homebody, but she was no fool.

Abby Hill just lost all that was important to her as she watched her home go up in flames. As the emotions threaten to consume her, an anonymous Firefighter is there to catch her. Even through her grief, she senses the connection between them… After the blaze is extinguished, her mysterious Fireman leaves, but the burn between them remains.

GAVIN MORGAN

“Those books you read, Abby. Those fantasies you have – I can give you that.”

Gavin Morgan has no idea what prompted him to comfort the woman outside the burning house, only that some sort of connection existed between them which couldn’t be ignored. After seeing some of the alluring items hidden in her closet, he is helpless to avoid seeking her out…

QUICK NOTE: THIS STORY WAS MY FAVORITE OUT OF THE THREE, HANDS DOWN!
Gavin has a particular brand of sexual preferences, and based on his discovery inside Abby’s house, he’s fairly certain that he has met his sexual match. He sends an anonymous invitation to Abby – to the Five Alarm Masquerade – where Boston’s sexually adventurous go to explore…

This was a fantastic collection, and I recommend it highly. It his wonderfully erotic and fun, an excellent way to spend your time.

Some relationships started out with a slow burn, while others happened as fierce as a backdraft, or so Gavin believed. The fire between him and Abby wasn’t one he intended to put out. In fact, he was determined to watch her burn, and for as many nights as she’d allow.
