Make Me by Cate Bellerose

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Sassy mouth, spankable ass, curves that won’t quit. I can’t get Dawn off my mind.
The chemistry in our scenes is off the charts, but me and love parted ways a long time ago. I can’t let her get used to me riding in to save the day every time she’s in trouble, but now she’s under my skin, and to make her behave I might just have to make her mine.
– – – – –
Gabriel loves my bratty attitude, and I love the way he puts me in my place. No Dom has ever worked me over like he does. It’s like he knows my body better than I do. What it needs. What it can take. He doesn’t want a relationship, but that’s okay. I don’t need forever, so long as he gives me tonight.
That all changes when he saves my life. Now I’m falling hard and fast, but it’ll take more than making him breakfast to convince him I’m not like his bitch of an ex. He needs me as badly as I need him, and I’m going to prove it the best way I know how.
By giving him a challenge he’ll never be able to resist.

Loved this story – Sweet heat and laughter – Absolute Perfection.
She’s a dash of color in a sea of black leather, black makeup, black hair, black everything. It’s like no one thinks BDSM can be fun anymore. All serious and angsty. And then there’s Dawn.
A truly fabulous Novella worthy of repeat readings.
I was able to read the story in a single sitting, and by the time I finished, my face hurt from grinning so much. I even laughed out loud more than once!
This is a light-hearted and sinfully HOT read – perfect for those who like a little D/s in their romances. It wasn’t angsty, there were no untouchable, impossible characters – No squillionaires with dark pasts… No virgins being tempted into a life of BDSM…
Yes we were treated to some deliciously kinky scenes, but we also had believable characters and laugh out loud humor. The dialogue between the two main characters really made this a 5-Star read for me.
She’s a goddamed angel. Sure, a bratty little angel, but that’s how I like ’em. Domming’s no fun with someone who just rolls over and plays dead.
I LOVED this character! If she was real, I’d want a bestie just like her 🙂
She’s a short, curvy, foul-mouthed modern woman working toward a career as an architect… Who enjoys blowing off steam with a good spanking.
A wonderfully bratty sub – she likes to earn her punishments by pushing her Dom’s buttons. She talks back and has a spine of steel. Luckily, she’s also a total pain slut, because Gabriel loves bringing difficult subs to heel.
He really is my guardian angel. I had no idea angels were batshit insane, though.
Gabriel runs a BDSM club and became an accidental superhero for Dawn when he met her on the street one morning.
He brought a new life to the typical “Dom who has sworn off relationships” character – he knows he falls fast and hard. To protect his heart from getting involved in another disastrous relationships, he keeps his kinks at the club…
The POV was split about equally between Dawn and Gabriel. They’re tempting each other into something bigger than a physical relationship, even though both characters are wary of opening themselves to another.
The chemistry between these two was fabulous. When Dawn and Gabriel finally came together it was melt-your-Kindle hot!
“Girls get punished for a lot less than that around here, you realize that, right? Especially gorgeous, sexy ones like you.”
“Really? Punished? Well, if you put it like that…”
“You coming, then?”
She laughs. “Totally.”
I take her hand, pulling her along. It’s so tiny in mine. Fuck, I haven’t been this eager to play in… well, no idea when, really. She’s in for it tonight.
“You’ve been a naughty girl, you know.”
She follows eagerly. “Oh, have I now? What did I do?”
“Well, for one you didn’t tell me the truth about my visitor this morning.” My arm is yanked as she stops. Her mouth is open halfway, her face flushing.
“Um…” I love how she chews her lip when she’s nervous. “I… no, guess I didn’t. You found the crullers, huh?”
“I did. Come on, it’s right over here.” She follows, but reluctantly.
“So… um, before I let you tie me up and have your way with me… on a scale of one to ten, how pissed are you?”
I laugh. “Pissed? Not really. Disappointed? A little. Just enough to put you through your paces, but nothing you can’t handle.” I look her right in the eyes. “I think.”
“Oh.” She fidgets with her hands. No idea if the blush is embarrassment or excitement. Hopefully a little of both, but more than anything, I want the brat.
“Oh? You’re not going to apologize right away, are you? It’s so much more fun beating it out of you.”
She grins at that, understanding. “Fuck no. She doesn’t deserve your time. Not my fault you’re too stupid to see it.”
I pull her close so she’s forced to look up at me, then yank the chopstick out of her hair. “I’m so going to make you fucking regret mouthing off, and you’re going to love every second of it.”
“Cocky, aren’t you? Compensating for something?” Her eyes sparkle, and her lopsided grin has mischief written all over it.
“Oh, baby.” I thread my fingers slowly through her hair, gently until I’m cupping the back of her head, then I make a fist, capturing her blond locks with my hand. She squeaks when I yank, forcing her to follow. “This is gonna hurt you a lot more than it’ll hurt me, but it’s for your own good.”
Our play area is cordoned off, right in the middle of the crowd. I don’t play at these parties often, but when I do, I like to do it right, and I like a good audience. They’re already gathering, like sharks around a sinking lifeboat.
Once we’re inside, I let her take in our spot. I have cuffs hanging from the ceiling, adjustable to give her a little stretch. There’s a bench I can strap her to, and a rack filled with toys. Not a full dungeon maybe, but more than enough to keep us busy. Her eyes go wide.
“All this? For me?” She leers at me. “You shouldn’t have.”
“It was the least I could do.”
“No, seriously. You shouldn’t have. I can’t imagine you even know what to do with this stuff. These toys are for grownups.”
“You know your safewords?” I put as much menace into my words as I can.
She rolls her eyes, making sure I see it. “Yeah, yeah. Yellow for slow down. Red for stop. Blue for your balls. Green for go.”
“Oh, you don’t decide when we go. I call the shots now.”
“I think you’re just words. Small words, since I don’t think you can handle the big ones.” She laughs.
It’s hard to keep my face straight. She’s good, but I’m better. “Take off your clothes.”
“You have five seconds to start stripping, or I’ll come over there and cut them off you.” I love how her eyes widen as I go to pick up scissors on the rack. I snip them twice in the air. “Four.”
She chews her lip again, probably wondering if I’ll actually do it. “No.”
“Two.” I step closer, right up against her. “I’m not fucking around, babe.”
She shivers, but doesn’t say anything.
“One.” I slide the lower blade underneath her right side dress strap.
“You won’t dare. No way.”
An Interview with Cate Bellerose
About the Book:
Sell your book in five words or less:
Hot and spanky romance romp!
What was the spark of inspiration which led to this book?
My initial idea was actually very dark, but would have required a much longer book to complete. I’m still learning, so I wanted to start with novella length. I lightened up the story and added a fun brat/Dom dynamic, and I think it actually turned out a lot better than my original idea.
How did you come up with the sassy-mouthed character, Dawn?
I love the power exchanges of dominance and submission, but that doesn’t mean that the submissive shouldn’t have a backbone. I wanted to write a heroine that gave as well as she took, and I think I managed to do that with Dawn.
What about Gabriel?
A strong woman needs a strong man, with a firm hand. 😉 My first idea was of Dawn, and then his character came when I tried to imagine her perfect counterpart.
What kind of research did you do to prepare for writing this book?
I may *cough* have a little personal experience, so not that much research was needed, at least about the BDSM. Some poking around on Fetlife.com, which I do anyway. Other than that, it comes down to reading a lot.
What is your favorite quote or moment from this story?
Snip. Snip. Snip. 😉 I won’t give it away, but you’ll know when you get there.
If you were offered the chance to turn this book into a Hollywood movie, would you take that opportunity?
Hey, it worked for 50SoG! That said, I suspect I’m still a ways away from the top of the list of authors to be called. 😉
Dawn and Gabriel had their HEA, but the Epilogue seemed to set up a new storyline with Caleb (Gabriel’s right-hand man). Do you have any plans to turn this into a series in the future?
I do indeed. I have at least two more stories planned out, and I’m already working hard writing the next one, which has the almost definite title of Teach Me. It will actually not be Caleb’s story yet, but both he and Vivian will have appearaces in it and maybe a glimpse or two of Gabriel and Dawn. Caleb’s story is coming too, though.
How long have you known you wanted to be an author?
Since I was little. I always enjoyed making up stories, and started writing them down. It was a long time before I realized that it was something I might possibly make a career of, though.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was a geeky little kid. It was actually a sci fi story, which is a genre I’d love to revisit at some point. I don’t think I ever quite finished it, but I remember it being really bloody. I’d probably watched something that was meant for grownups. 😉
How do you keep your creativity flowing?
It comes and goes. The two most important things are to read and write. Read broadly for ideas and inspiration, and force yourself to write regularly to get used to putting those ideas on (digital) paper. The act of writing will in itself often create new ideas. Of course, sometimes you just write yourself into a corner. Those are the frustrating days.
How long did it take for you to write Make Me?
Putting the plot together and getting the style I wanted took a couple of months of fiddling. I’d never written something quite like this, and I wanted my first book to be good. Once I had the idea an outline, the actual writing took less than two weeks.
What advice do you have for new authors? Is there anything you know now that you wish you knew when you were starting out?
Publish. Write something, make it good, but don’t agonize over it. So many seem to polish their masterpiece for months or even years, but it’s very limited how much you’ll learn from that. To get better, you need to do the whole process over and over. It’s true with most things in life.
How do you deal with bad reviews? Any advice for other authors in that regard?
They’re going to happen. Sometimes there will be good info in there, things that give you an idea of what you can work on to improve. Otherwise, I try to not let them bother me. I don’t expect to be able to please everyone. It’s not always easy, though.
What additional projects are you working on?
Right now, most of my time is taken up by my BDSM novellas, but I’m always thinking of other ideas that might be fun to write. I’d love to do a pirate series if I someday think it would do well. I think it would lend itself very well to the kind of spirited character interactions I love, and it just sounds like so much fun.
What book have you read more times than any other?
I feel like I should list a sexy romance novel here, but to be honest, it’s Job: A Comedy of Justice by Robert Heinlein. I’ve read it at least 5-6 times. Once, I read it and then wanted to find a quote I’d liked, but couldn’t quite remember where was, so I just started reading it again. Later that night, I realized I’d read the whole book again and forgotten about the quote.
What is the latest book you’ve bought and read?
The Realist by Abby Zanders. It was a very sweet and funny romance, with characters that interacted well. Really enjoyable read.
What was the last book you absolutely fell in love with?
An Accidental Goddess by Linnea Sinclair. It’s a sci fi novel with a strong romance arc, and I really loved the characters in it, and their interactions. The writing is tight and the plot engaging. One of my best reads in a long time.
Is there a book you keep meaning to read, but haven’t gotten around to it? Don’t worry, we all have ridiculously long TBRs!
I have a copy of the Arabian Nights that I’ve been meaning to make my way through for years, but I keep putting it off. I blame my Kindle.
On Play Time:
When you’re not hard at work writing, what do you do with your time?
Not at work writing? I don’t understand. I kid, but these days it’s scarily true. I’m just getting started, and if I want to do well, I have to work hard at it. That said, when I do find a little free time, I might piddle around with video games, and I make sure to run regularly to keep in shape. Writing’s a lot of sitting. I also have a lovely family, so it’s important I don’t forget them. 🙂
What’s the first thing on your Bucket List?
Visit every continent at least once. Yes, including Antarctica. So far I have Europe, Asia, North America and Africa checked off.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Chocolate. I eat way too much of it. I know it’s a horribly generic answer, but it’s so true!
Favorite Swear Word?
Fuck. It’s so versatile. It’s a noun, a verb, an adjective and can be anything from a hateful curse to a sweet promise. It’s fucking amazing. 😀

About the Author:
There’s something magical about the games of dominance and submission. The excitement of giving total control to the one you love, knowing that he will take you places you never thought you could go. The absolute trust in a man who loves you, who wants to challenge you, who wants to bring out the best in you. It’s love and total devotion in its purest sense, and that’s what I love to write about, at least when I’m not wrangling kids and taking care of my family!
