J.R. Ward – Dark Lover

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood #1
Source: Personal Library
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

An Adult Vampire Series worth sinking your teeth into!

“You don’t know this yet,” he said grimly. “But you are Mine.”

Every now and then, some one will begin talking about their favorite books/series and on the off-chance I haven’t read it, they will positively freak out… In the case of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, several people were shocked and appalled that I hadn’t picked it up…

“What do you mean you’ve never heard of this series?!? You must read it!
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!”

That’s precisely how I was introduced to the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series (complete with Tod Browning reference).

I’m so incredibly glad I picked it up.

The story switched point of view like crazy, but it was well executed. I was gripped with suspense, I laughed out loud, (and Gods help me) I almost cried.

I really enjoyed meeting all of the characters – there were a ton of people in this book, it’s easy to get bogged down when we’re being set up to understand everyone’s individual personalities, but J.R. Ward does a great job of easing us in.

She gives us enough information to understand someone’s motives while keeping us from getting overburdened with information. I think it’s safe to assume the majority of the characters we met in Dark Lover will be getting their own books, so we really just needed to get a taste… And it was a lovely taste.

I can see how this could easily become a new series for me to call favorite. I just ordered the next 10 books from Amazon… Hurry up UPS man!
